Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.

An important representative commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
